Every project has a unique story

At Willow Energies, we take pride in the projects we have worked on and the impact we have made. We have successfully contributed on projects in a variety of sectors, including rooftop, carport, tracker, ground mounted and floating solar PV, both commercial and residential scale.

Every project has a unique story and each one has its particularities and challenges, but all need a clear strategy to ensure optimal build quality and operational performance.

Animals can be a great help for co-managing ground mounted solar sites, helping to keep the vegetation low and production optimal. But the site has to be "animal" proof !

China

This site has very rocky terrain which made piling difficult. Modules aligned with the terrain which made calculating the performance ratio difficult!

This site had raised modules because of flooding risk. This meant it was easier to graze sheep who couldn't access module cables. But the combiner boxes still need protecting.

Taiwan

Solar carports have multi functions of generating electricity whilst also providing shade to the vehicles underneath. But they do require extra effort to perform maintenance, typically requiring a boom lift or scissor lift.

The Philippines

This site required a large scale module replacement owing to a manufacturer defect. The mass module replacement took place at night to not affect the site performance, with many dozens of workers needed for the job!

Japan

Snow management can be a critical part of certain sites, particularly those in mountainous regions. Without a clear strategy to remove snow, there can be a massive impact on performance.

India

In desert regions, module soiling can become a critical issue that requires clear management.

Modules installed flat to the ground require particular attention as the bottom row can quickly become shaded by vegetation. Such sites require good O&M strategy!

China

At the time this was the world's largest floating solar site. Floating solar requires special tools and a jet-ski can be useful to quickly access remote parts of the site.

UAE

Whilst not solar PV, Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) also require a clear strategy to ensure optimal performance. Special attention should be made to mirror cleaning to ensure correct reflection of the sun rays onto the heat transfer fluid.

Thailand

Industrial rooftop solar is a great way of utilising available roof space for electricity generation. Rooftops clearly don't need vegetation management but can be more tricky to maintain.

Thailand

Floating solar is another great way of utilising available pond space. This site was challenging as it required levelling of the pond before the solar works could start.

Modules situated under trees can encourage lichen growth which is very difficult to remove from modules. Frequent pruning of overhead trees is required to prevent this.

China

Vegetation management is a critical part of ensuring good performance. Such trees should never be present between module rows.

India

Tracker solar systems can lead to increased production as they track the sun. But more mechanical parts can lead to increased failures, so a clear strategy to manage that is required

Philippines

This large solar farm was the biggest in Philippines at its time of commissioning.
